Philip E. Harriman – 1978

For over forty years, Phil has worked with family-held and nonprofit businesses in the areas of business continuation arrangements, negotiation of compensation packages, and retirement and estate planning. He started his career with Maine Governor James B. Longley’s insurance agency in 1977. In 1983, he and Michael A. Lebel formed an independent insurance and investment brokerage firm – Lebel & Harriman, LLP.

Phil is a graduate of Husson University in Bangor, Maine earning a B.S. degree in Business Administration, majoring in Insurance. He was awarded the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. He is a licensed and bonded life insurance consultant.

In 1989, Phil was admitted into membership of the prestigious Association of Advanced Life Underwriting. Phil is a Qualifying member of MDRT, an international association of financial and life insurance advisors. From 2003 to 2008, he was a member of the MDRT Executive Committee, serving as its President in 2007. Phil is a past executive committee member of the Maine Estate Planning Council. In 2000, he was the recipient of the J. Putnam Stevens Award for his outstanding contributions to the life insurance profession.

Phil has spoken to international audiences worldwide including Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, Europe, Philippines, Canada and Thailand. He has also appeared on CNN Financial, Sky Tel and Bloomberg Radio Network. Phil provides political analysis on News Center Maine’s popular Political Brew program.

He serves on the Board of Trustees at Husson University, and as the Chairperson of the Make-A-Wish Maine Board. He is a former director of the LIFE Foundation and the American College Foundation. He is a former board member of Mid Coast Health Services, Cancer Community Center, Ingraham Volunteers and a former Co-Director of the Yarmouth Clam Festival. Phil’s civic involvement includes serving four terms representing the 23rd District in the Maine Senate.

Phil’s hobbies include fly fishing, skeet, and golf.
